Sri Lanka Design Festival 09
Sri Lanka Design Festival, a national event, aims to promote the creative industries of Sri Lanka. Each year, the event will have one area of prime focus.
Sri Lanka Design Festival 2009, scheduled to take place during the week of 27 November to 6 December 2009, will focus on the fashion industry of SriLanka; its journey and its transition from a manufacturing industry to a knowledge-based creative industry founded on sound ethical and sustainable practices.
During this week, Sri Lanka Design Festival 2009 will showcase Sri Lanka Apparel's manufacturing excellence and ethical positioning under the 'Garments without Guilt' initiative, highlight the use of modern technology (i.e. Nano Technology) as well as highlighting the overall design capabilities with directional fashion (integrating elements of design and finishing).
Key opinion leaders such as Hilary Alexander, Colin Mc Dowell, designers and buyers from the international world of fashion have already confirmed to participate. Monsoon, TOPSHOP, FromSomwhere, Zara are to name a few of the retailers who will be participating. The Fashion Shows will also showcase a few of the international designers who are preparing collections based on Sri Lankan textiles.
While the year 2009 has been specially designated for the promulgation of Fashion Design, Sri Lanka Design Festival would also give prominence to other design sectors such as Crafts, Graphic, Interior and Jewellery Design. These sectors would also be displayed to add depth to what is truly known as Sri Lankan design.
The series of events of exhibitions, lectures, seminars, symposium and workshops have been segmented to serve the local industries to propel their designs and their manufacturing products to the world scene and also to expose themselves to many professionals who would not only add value to the knowledge base but hopefully will
be buyers and ambassadors of our products to the world.
